Barangay Mapulang Lupa and Ugong: The Origins

Once upon a time before the year of 1950, Barangay Mapulang Lupa and Barangay Ugong are one and the same and they called it Barrio Ugong. The place have many trees, pure virgin forest, stony like a simple mountain that you can always see in every place in this Barrio. The stony part of the place is wider than farms. In the place where Mapulang Lupa situated, there are 17 houses or households who lives in this place. This 17 families thought that their place was already abandoned and because of this situation they unite to build and construct a "mini chapel" where they used this when the time of Holy Week (Semana Santa) and celebration of fiesta.

Red Soil and the name "Mapulang Lupa"

During that time the place was in demand for "PATIBAGAN NG BATO" and they called it "Eskombro" in every excavation they did, in deepest part , they always found red soil "PULANG LUPA" even in the farm and place where they plant some vegetables and others they always saw a "Pulang Lupa" or Red Soil.

And when they say it to the people of Ugong the eagerness and ardent desire to seperate the place and they called it "MAPULANG LUPA" until the Sangguniang Bayan of Polo granted in 1950.
